Internet Ban: 12 Social Media platforms including WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter have been banned in Darbhanga Bihar. The Government of Bihar Home Department (Special Branch) has issued an order to ban the different social media platforms in Darbhanga for several days.

12 Social Media Platforms banned in Darbhanga

Dr. S. Siddharth Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department Government of Bihar said in the order “As per the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police Darbhanga reports, some anti-social element in Darbhanga District are using Internet medium to transmit objectionable content in order to spread rumors and disaffection amongst public at large with a view to incite them to commit various offenses against communal harmony and cause damage to life and property and disturb peace and tranquility.”

He said in his order, “Whereas, it is felt that misuse of social media networking sites and instant messaging services is likely to be detrimental to the interests of peace and tranquility in Darbhanga District.

He also said, “Whereas, Section 5 of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 read with Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017 inter-alia, confers powers upon the Central government or the State Government to take possession of licensed telegraphs and order stoppage of transmission or interception or detention of messages.”

To stop the spread of misinformation and rumors through the internet and social media platforms has been banned from 17 Feb (14:00 hours) to (14:00 hours) on 19th February.

After the communal clash between two groups of people during the idol immersion in Sharshwati Pooja, The Home Department has decided to restore communal harmony in Darbhanga.
