A Google spokesperson said in a statement “We’re aware of a problem with Gmail affecting a significant subset of users. The affected users are unable to access Gmail. We will provide an update, detailing when we expect to resolve the problem”. It also said that the affected users can use the desktop Gmail Web interface instead of the Gmail Android app.

Most of the users report apps crashing and go to the DownDetector and Reddit to learn about these app crashes. Google’s Workspace Cloud Status Dashboard also confirmed that apps are crashing because of the Android WebView app. Google also says that it is working on a fix crashing as soon as possible. The WebView app helps phone apps to show you web pages.

Samsung phones were the worst affected by these app crashes. Samsung’s US support said in a reply to affected users, Please remove the WebView update and restart your phone. You have to open your phone settings and then go to the apps option. After this tap on the three dots in the top of the right corner.
Tap on the show system apps after this search for Android System WebView and select the Uninstall updates to uninstall the updates. To uninstall the updates from other phones you can use the same process. Be careful before removing the app because it helps apps to show web pages.
