The new feature has been discovered in the Android beta version 2.24.6.20. The previous app lock feature had only biometric authentication which limited users who preferred alternative methods or whose devices lacked biometric sensors. But now, the meta-owned is expanding the authentication option by including other unique identifiers like device passcode.

It is an additional layer of security that is an important step forward in enhancing user privacy and safeguarding personal data. When the user enables the Unlock with biometrics, you will need to use a fingerprint, face, or other unique identifiers to open WhatsApp. You can still answer calls if WhatsApp is locked.

It is beneficial for users experiencing broken or temporarily malfunctioning biometric sensors on their devices. With the option to use alternative authentication methods like a device passcode, the meta-owned messaging app ensures that users facing such issues can still access their accounts securely.

There is also an automatic lock option that locks your WhatsApp automatically after a certain amount of time. It has three time options Immediately, After 1 minute, and After 30 minutes. If you choose 1 minute option then your WhatsApp will be locked after 1 minute.

The improved app lock feature is rolling out for Android beta testers. It is available on the Android beta version 2.24.6.20. However, some users get this feature on the Android beta version 2.24.4.5.
