According to the WABetaInfo the feature tracker of WhatsApp, the meta-owned messaging app is developing a new feature that allows users to mention their contacts in Status updates. This means you will be able to mention specific contacts in the status update to whom you want to dedicate the status to them.

They will have the ability to directly involve specific contacts in their status updates who are a part of what they are sharing. When you mention someone in your status updates users are promptly notified when they are mentioned.

The meta-owned messaging app will enhance communication by ensuring users are always aware of relevant status updates. Users will be more likely to engage with the content, contributing their thoughts with a reply or reaction when they are mentioned in a status update by someone by receiving notifications.

Users will be soon able to mention their other contact by their username and those who don’t have their number will see whom they have mentioned but won’t be able to see their contact details.
