WhatsApp Chat Backups Now Use Google Drive Storage
Before these new changes, WhatsApp Chat backups on Android didn’t count toward your Google Drive storage. But, the meta-owned messaging apps chat backups on Android will count as part of Google Account cloud storage from December on Android for beta users.
The new changes will reach all Android users in the first half of 2024. The Chat backups on Android will work until there is space in the users’ Google Drive storage. If the user exhausts their Drive storage limit then they will have to free up their Google account storage to resume their chat backups.
Google said in a blog post, “WhatsApp backups on Android will soon start counting toward your Google Account cloud storage limit, similar to how WhatsApp backups are handled on other mobile platforms. This change will first start rolling out to WhatsApp Beta users starting in December 2023 and then gradually to all WhatsApp users on Android starting early next year.”
