Twitter has released a new change to the two-factor authentication service on the platform. The Twitter two-factor authentication service based on the SMS will be paid. It will disable the SMS-based two-factor authentication to secure their account for non-Blue users.

Twitter will no longer allow users to enable two-factor authentication via SMS who have not subscribed the Twitter Blue. The users who have subscribed the Twitter Blue will only be able to enable the two-factor authentication via SMS. The 2FA (two-factor authentication) provides users with the option to log in using the code or security key in addition to the password, an additional layer of security.

Now two-factor authentication is a paid feature, joining several Twitter blue features including the prestigious Blue tick, edit tweets, etc. Twitter said in the blog post, “So starting today, we will no longer allow accounts to enroll in the text message/SMS method of 2FA unless they are Twitter Blue subscribers. The availability of text message 2FA for Twitter Blue may vary by country and carrier.”

Users who have not subscribed to Twitter Blue will have 30 days to disable the two-factor authentications via SMS. It will not allow non-Twitter Blue subscribers to use the text messages as a 2FA method after 20 March 2023. Later it said in the blog post, “We encourage non-Twitter Blue subscribers to consider using an authentication app or security key method instead. If you don’t want to subscribe the Twitter Blue then you can use third-party authentication apps like Google Authenticator, 1Password, and more or a security key method to secure your account.

You can subscribe to Twitter Blue at the cost of Rs 650 a month buy via the Web and Rs 900 a month if buy via Twitter’s Android or iOS app. The Twitter Blue plan offers fewer ads, better reach, Prestigious Blue Tick, Post longer videos, and more.
