WhatsApp has been planning a new feature to choose how voice messages are transcribed for a long time. This feature will help you read voice notes easily, even if you can’t listen to them.
Now, users don’t need to play voice messages. Android users can now experience this feature fully. iPhone users will receive it soon. It works without the internet after setup. The feature supports many languages and offers more control to users.

Now Read Voice Messages Without Playing Them
WhatsApp has introduced a voice message transcription feature. It was announced by WhatsApp in November 2024. It is now usable for Indian WhatsApp users, but only on Android devices. If you’re an iPhone guy, then you will have to wait for it.
The feature helps in noisy or public places. It also helps while users are multitasking. WhatsApp’s trick to make voice notes transcribed will remove the need to listen to them every time.
This update improves the overall user experience. By reading the transcripts, you can easily go through messages silently. The text appears directly under the voice note. This makes conversations quicker and easier to follow.
The feature uses local, on-device processing only. This means WhatsApp does not access your messages. Both audio and text remain private on your phone. So it gives you complete control and security over how you want to use it.

Hindi is Not Official Yet, But It Still Works
The feature supports English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian. Hindi is not yet officially on the list. But some users saw Hindi transcriptions working already. This shows the feature may support Hindi soon. Many Indian users record voice messages in Hindi. So full Hindi support is expected in future updates.
Even without official support, Hindi voice notes work. This makes the feature more useful in India. WhatsApp may be testing the feature in the background. As more people use it, language options may grow. Adding Hindi officially will help millions of users.
Also, users can use mobile data or Wi-Fi. The choice depends on your network settings. You can enable the feature on mobile data, too. It works offline after setup is complete.
