WhatsApp is working on a new feature that allows Meta AI to expand any Photo to fit Status updates. If you add photos or images as status updates on WhatsApp, but the inability to fit them to the vertical aspect ratio (9:16 format) bothers you.
Square or landscape images leave space at the top and bottom of the screen that looks bad. Cropping those images loses the details of those images. But the Meta-owned messaging app’s new AI-powered photo expansion feature fixes the issues and makes the photo fit status updates.
WhatsApp AI-powered photo expansion Feature
The new feature has been discovered on the WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.26.33.2 update. As per the report, the Meta-owned messaging app is working on the AI-powered photo expansion tool that fits any images into the 9:16 format used for Status updates.
As you can see in the given image below, users will need to open the photo drawing editor and scroll down in the filters section to find the editing options. Here, Users will find a new “Expand” Option in the filter section.
After that, Meta AI analyses the photo and processes it to make the photo fit for Status updates. WhatsApp presets the photo in the 9:16 format within a second. Users can repeat the process if they don’t like the result to get satisfied expansion result or share the new photo to expand.
Meta AI doesn’t simply stretch the photo to fill the entire phone screen in vertical format when users use the expand photo option. It analyses the photo and generates a new photo by filling in the missing or blank information with an extension of that scene. The quality of the expansion on the photo depends on how much context the original image provides.
This AI-powered Photo expansion feature is currently under development. However, WhatsApp will soon roll out the photo expansion feature for beta testers on Android.
