PhonePe has launched the UPI 123Pay feature for Feature Phones in India. It is a four-year-old payment system that helps non-smartphone users use the digital payments network on their feature phones. Users can now make payments without an internet connection.
This service will come pre-installed on feature phones from Nokia, HMD, Lava International, and Itel Mobile. This feature is available on HMD 105 2G, HMD 110 2G, Nokia 105 Classic, Nokia 105 Single SIM, Nokia 105 Dual SIM, Nokia 106, Nokia 123 Shield and more.
PhonePe UPI 123Pay Launched for Feature Phones in India
PhonePe becomes the first major third-party app provider or TPAP to bring its UPI payment service to feature phones. The PhonePe UPI 123Pay feature uses the secure SMS based architecture to ensure transactions go through in regions with limited 2G connectivity.
Users can make payments to peer-to-peer (P2P) using mobile numbers or UPI IDS. They can also make payments to peer-to-merchant (P2M) through UPI IDs and QR Code scanning.
Users can also manage their accounts, check account balances, and view transaction histories.
To assist first-time users, the company has released a voice-first AI-powered helpline. It provides step-by-step activation guidance in English, Hindi, and 11 Indian languages.
The company said that it will add additional capabilities, such as utility bill payments, recharges, and Aadhaar-based onboarding in future updates.
How to register for PhonePe UPI 123Pay on feature phone without Internet
- Open the PhonePe app pre-installed on the feature phone.
- Read & accept the Terms & Conditions to complete the start device registration.
- Select your bank from the options list.
- Enter the last six digits of your debit card and its expiry date.
- Create your UPI PIN. Your UPI ID is now active and ready to make payments.
How to make a payment using a Feature Phone
- Open the PhonePe app on the Feature phone and select Scan & Pay or Contact Book, Mobile Number or Pay to UPI.
- Select Pay to Mobile Number or Pay to UPI ID.
- Enter Mobile Number or UPI ID
- Check the details, enter the amount, and UPI PIN.
- Press OK to confirm and pay.
- The next screen will confirm successful payment.
