Google has finally released the new feature that allows users to change their Gmail account username after 22 Years of waiting. Users can now ditch the cringeworthy email addresses they created and change to a professional and best one.
They can change their Google account username part that comes before “@gmail.com”. Users won’t lose any of their data if they change their old email username part that comes before “@gmail.com”.

How the Google Change Gmail Account username feature works
The new ability to change Gmail account username allows users to pick a new available username for their Gmail account while keeping their entire account history. This means all your old photos, messages, and files stay exactly, and your previous account will become an alternate email address.

How to Change Gmail usersname
If you want to replace your old email address with a new one, you have to follow these simple steps.
- Open your Settings: You have to go to your Google Account settings page (myaccount.google.com/google-account) on your smartphone (Android or iOS)or computer.
- Find Your Info: Tap on the Personal info option.
- Go to your email settings: Scroll down to the Contact info section, tap the email, then select the Google Account email.
- Check for Update: You will see an option Change Google Account email if this feature is available for your account. You have to tap the “Change Google account email” option to proceed.
- Pick a new username: Type the new username you want to change. One important thing to note is that your new username must be unique and available, and can’t be a name that has been used by someone else in the past.
- Confirm and Save: Tap on the confirm option to confirm the change. Google recommends users back up their data before finishing the change just to be safe.
Now you can log in to the Google service either with your old or new Gmail address. Users will continue to receive emails at both the old and new email addresses.

There are a few restrictions users need to remember
- Users can only change their Gmail address once every 12 months.
- Users can change their Gmail address a total of three times in their lifetime.
- They can switch back to the original (First time they created) address at any time.
- The new name must be unique and cannot have been used by anyone else before.
