WhatsApp is rolling out a new Voice message transcripts feature that provides more flexibility and accessibility in communications to users. Users can now get the content of a voice message in situations where they can’t listen to the voice note.

WhatsApp is releasing a new feature for voice messages that provides more flexibility and accessibility in communication. It is releasing the transcripts feature for voice messages for users to get the content of voice messages in case they can’t listen to their voice notes.

The transcription feature is added to the message bubble to make it easier for users to read. The new transcripts feature is enabled by default for users but in case they don’t want their voice message being transcribed they can disable this transcript feature easily.

Voice Note transcripts feature

They have to go to the WhatsApp Settings then go to the Chats and after this tap on the Voice Message Transcripts option.

Note that the new voice message transcripts feature is protected with end-to-end encryption as the transcription process takes place locally on the user’s device, by using language packs.

This feature uses the latest APIs provided by iOS 16 that allow the app to process the voice message locally on the user’s device without the need to transfer the message to external servers that is the reason this feature is only available for some users on newer versions of iOS.

The new transcription feature for voice messages also allows users to search for specific information within the message. When a voice note is transcribed, the text is indexed making it searchable for users.

If a user is looking for certain information within a long voice note or they don’t remember which voice note contains the content they are looking for then they can simply search for the relevant keyword or phrase by using the search bar and the transcription will highlight where that text appears within the messages, as per WABetaInfo report.

The new transcripts voice notes feature is rolling out for some iOS beta. The new ability to transcribe voice notes feature is available on the WhatsApp beta for iOS version 23.9.0.70.
