WhatsApp is Rolling Out the New Group Chat History Sharing feature on Android. This New feature lets users share their chat history with new group members. They can share recent messages with new members in a group, providing a smoother way for new members to catch up on the conversation.
It brings new members up to speed on recent conversations without disrupting the ongoing discussion in the Group.
WhatsApp’s new Group Chat History Sharing Feature
The meta-owned messaging app will automatically deliver a selected window of past messages, ensuring the new member has the necessary context from the moment they join, after giving permission. Group Admins have full control over recent messages that are shared, giving them flexibility over group privacy and participation.
Previously, new group members had to ask existing members for summaries of recent discussions, which could interrupt the flow of the group and create confusion. But a new feature that provides access to the recent messages ensures that the new members can understand the topic of the group immediately. It reduces the extra manual explanation and makes integration smoother.
The new feature only focuses on the recent messages that ensure only the latest part of the group conversation is delivered to the new member without overwhelming the entire group chat log. Up to a maximum of 100 recent messages can be shared, though admins have the flexibility to share fewer messages if they prefer.
One of the important things to note is that the meta-owned messaging app will only calculate recent messages based on the activity in the past 14 days, so older messages beyond this period are excluded from the group chat history sharing automatically.
Messages shared through the new feature are highlighted in a different color so new group members can easily find them from ongoing conversations. All the group members will receive a notification that recent messages have been shared, along with timestamps and details about the history sharing event with the new member.
