WhatsApp banned 20 lakh Indian users’ accounts between 15 May and 15 June. It banned users’ accounts for abusing the platform’s services. WhatsApp’s first compliance report was published under India’s new IT Rules and the company said that these accounts are banned for abusing platform services.
WhatsApp received 345 requests in the one-month period. These 345 requests include the 70 requests for account support, 204 requests to ban accounts, 20 for other supports issues, 43 requests for product support, and 8 requests for safety issues. The company took the action on the 63 requests.
WhatsApp has 530 Million users in India and it received 345 requests. It banned around 8 million accounts worldwide within a month. WhatsApp banned these accounts using automated technology. The Company also plans to release this report every 30-45 days.
Google, Facebook, and Twitter had also released these reports early this month. After these WhatsApp has also published this report. Now WhatsApp has become the fourth company that published the grievance compliance report. The company didn’t reveal that how many information requests it received from the government.
