The government of India has made it mandatory for every individual to link the PAN Card (Permanent Account Number) to the Aadhaar Card by 31 March 2023. The IT department said that the linking PAN to the Aadhaar card is compulsory under the Income Tax Act, of 1961.
All the Unlinked PAN cards will become inoperative from April 1, the IT department said in a Tweet. PAN-Aadhaar Card linking on the e-filling website can be completed by paying a fee of Rs 1000. The IT department has also given links on its website for taxpayers to check if their PAN is linked to their Aadhaar.

How to check the PAN-Aadhar card link status online?
To check the PAN-Aadhar link status, A taxpayer will have to visit the Income Tax e-filling portal. After visiting the portal, click Quick Links on the homepage then Link Aadhaar Status.
A new page will open and you will see the two fields where the taxpayer needs to enter PAN and Aadhaar numbers and click on the View Link Aadhaar Status button.
A pop-up message will be displayed after the server checks the status. If the taxpayer’s Aadhaar and PAN are linked, the message will read: “Your PAN is already linked to the given Aadhaar”.
If their PAN and Aadhaar are not linked together then the pop-up message will be displayed “PAN not linked with Aadhaar. Please click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ to link your Aadhaar with PAN”.

Link PAN-Aadhaar card
The taxpayer can link their PAN to their Aadhaar by using the quick link “Link Aadhaar” on the e-Filling home page to link their Aadhaar and PAN card. Enter your Aadhaar and PAN card numbers on the Link Aadhaar page. After this Confirm your PAN card number and mobile number to receive OTP.
Now head to the Income Tax File Process and enter the mode of payment and assessment year. Once your Payment is successful your PAN will be linked to your Aadhaar.
Note, there is no fee for linking PAN to Aadhar up until 31 March 2023. The Income Tax Department introduces a PAN-Aadhaar linking charge of Rs 500 between April and June 2023. After July the linking charge will be Rs 1000.
